We all know yoga has numerous health benefits, not just physical but also mental and emotional.

But did you know these four moves are essential for every practice and every level?

1. CAT-COW STRETCH

- Improves posture and balance

- Strengthens and stretches the spine and nick

- Stretches the hips, abdomen, and back

- Increases coordination

- Massages and stimulates organs in the belly i.e. the kidneys and adrenal glands

- Creates emotional balance

- Relieves stress

- Calms the mind

2. PLOW STRETCH

- Opens the neck, shoulders, and back

- Massages and tones the digestive organs by compressing the abdomen and thereby improves detoxification

- Stimulates and regulates the thyroid gland

- Relieves excess phlegm and mucus

- Regulates the breath

3. BALASANA

- Centers, calms, and soothes the brain

- Can be therapeutic for stress relief and fatigue

- Gently stretches the hips, thighs, and ankles

- Relieves back and neck pain when done with the head and torso supported

- Gently provides relaxation for the muscles on the front of the body while softly and passively stretches the muscles of the back torso

4. PLANK

- Recommended 5 minutes a day

- Improves posture

- Improves core

- Improves arm strength

- Develops balance

- Strengthens lower back

- Encourages flexibility
